Provence | 2014 vintage
The weather affecting Provence and Corsica is often atypical. Although Corsica enjoyed a decent summer and dry September in 2014, Provence had an excellent summer but was soaked after September 15. Everything harvested before this period is excellent but everything left until just afterwards is somewhat diluted. On the other hand, red grapes harvested very late have been truly successful in both Corsica and Provence.
In Corsica primarily, red wines have performed well with a slow maturing period. Niellucio de Patrimonio wines have superb tannins while the Sciaccarellu d'Ajaccio wines are very drinkable. The white wines are also excellent although they lack suppleness. The rosé wines are fruity and balanced.
In Provence, early white varieties such as Marsanne have produced some fine results. Of the reds, the very late varieties such as Mourvèdre de Bandol resisted the mid-September showers perfectly and the results are superb. These wines will age beautifully.
