Information
Winegrowing in Gevrey-Chambertin can be traced back to Gallo-Roman times. The village was one of the first to bottle wines for sale in the 1930s. The highly acclaimed Fontenay climat, which translates as ‘little spring’, originates from a water reserve that caused extensive flooding in the mid-19th century and is now much less impressive. The Pinot Noir vines, facing east and south-east, stretch at an altitude of around 280 metres on brown limestone soils.
The dark garnet-red colour reveals a powerful and precise bouquet releasing complex notes of red and black fruit combined with a touch of mint and subtle hints of spice. The fresh and elegant palate reveals smooth tannins supported by a beautiful minerality, culminating in a rich, persistent and spicy finish. This cuvée promises excellent ageing potential.
