Information
Located in the heart of the Hautes Côtes de Beaune, Domaine Saint-Antoine des Echards was founded in 1998 by Marie-Christine and Franck Guérin. Since 2016, they have been joined by their son Pierre-Antoine, the fifth generation of the family to work the vines. The family estate covers 60 hectares, including 35 classified under the regional Hautes Côtes de Beaune appellation. The estate cultivates the region’s two signature grape varieties: Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. After low-intervention vinification that allows the fruit to fully express its aromas, the wines are aged in oak casks for 6 to 12 months depending on the cuvée. The red wines offer a classic and generous profile, with a deep purple hue, fruity aromas and a touch of spice. The white wines reveal golden highlights and aromas of white flowers laced with notes of honey. The estate produces authentic, elegant wines that capture the harmony and exceptional balance of the Burgundian terroir.
At the root of the greatest red wines, Pinot Noir, native to Burgundy, has earned its region an international reputation. Its name comes from the incredible resemblance of its tightly packed bunches to pine cones. This fragile, delicate grape variety, which grows on limestone and iron-rich soils, thrives in a mild climate, ideal for its development. In the winery, long macerations are interspersed with pump overs to extract all the tannins and colour from the berries. All winemaking steps are low interventionist right through to bottling.
The ruby colour is complemented by a nose dominated by powerful red fruit aromas combined with hints of spice. The mouth is notably round thanks to the fruity aromas and delicate tannins, supported by excellent length. This red wine can be enjoyed young, but also after several years of cellaring.
