Information
About the producer

Located on the south side of the Côte de Beaune, in Santenay, the family estate has been passed down from Father to Son since 1679. René Lequin, alongside his wife Josette Colin, daughter of a family of winemakers from Chassagne-Montrachet, ran the estate, which took his name in 1976. Nowadays, their son François tends the nine hectares of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir vines, planted on some of the finest terroirs in the region. The Chardonnay vines are pruned with the Guyot method, while the Pinot Noir vines are pruned with the Cordon de Royat method, thus limiting yields and guaranteeing concentrated, fragrant grapes. The couple is convinced that respect for traditional expertise combined with cutting-edge technology is essential to producing great wines. Aware of current environmental challenges, they began converting to organic viticulture in 2009.

About the wine

Located in the southern part of the Côte de Beaune, Chassagne-Montrachet was known simply as Chassagne until 1879, when it adopted the name of the renowned Montrachet climat to reflect the prestige of its great wines. The Les Charrières parcel lies on a south-east-facing slope, benefiting from generous sunshine in a transitional zone between village-level and Premier cru vineyards. The soils are clay-limestone, with a light pebbly component in places. The grapes are hand-harvested at peak ripeness to preserve the expression of the terroir. After gentle pressing, the juices are fermented in oak casks, with a moderate proportion of new oak so as not to overshadow the purity of the fruit. Alcoholic fermentation occurs naturally, followed by 12 months’ ageing on fine lees, with occasional stirring to build texture.
The wine displays a pale-gold hue with bright highlights. The expressive nose reveals aromas of juicy pear, fresh almond and white flowers, complemented by subtle notes of honey and chalk. The palate is lively and precise from the outset, combining freshness with a finely judged structure.
