    Information
    About the producer

In the 19th century, Giovanni Conterno joined his father on the family domaine in Monforte d'Alba (between Turin and the coast). This domaine was an export success from the very outset with its Barolo Reserve, which was only produced in the best years. In the late 1930s, Giovanni handed the baton to his son Giacomo, who was followed in turn by his sons Giovanni and Aldo. However, a few years later, and after some time spent in California, Aldo decided to set up his own domaine, Poderi Aldo Conterno, in 1969 (also in Monforte d'Alba). Today, the domaine spans 25 hectares in the heart of the Barolo wine region and produces renowned wines.

    About the wine

The Barolo terroir is one of Piedmont’s most prestigious crus. Rooted around Monforte d’Alba in the Langhe, its reputation stems from unique soils and the long-standing tradition of Nebbiolo. The Cicala parcel, at the heart of the Bussia cru in Monforte d’Alba, lies on calcareous marl alternating with layers of sand. In the vineyard, manual harvests are conducted in late October. The grapes undergo a skin maceration of 25–30 days in temperature-controlled stainless-steel vats, kept below 32°C. The wine is then aged for 26 months in large Slavonian oak casks.
The wine displays an intense garnet-red hue with dark glints. The complex, alluring nose reveals black fruit compote, blackberry and plum, enriched with floral notes of violet alongside leather, garrigue, tobacco and subtle balsamic hints. On the palate, the wine is rich, structured and concentrated, carried by firm yet finely refined tannins and a marked saline acidity that imparts superb freshness.
