Information
Domaine Françoise and Denis Clair was created in 1986 with initially only 5 hectares in Santenay, from the plots of the Clair family. The vineyard has gradually extended to today's 15 hectares. Since 2000, the son Jean-Baptiste has joined his parents and works in the field; they also set up a small trading business to expand their range. The wines of this domaine are vinified in a modern style, with succulent reds and a fine, refined style of white.
Bâtard-Montrachet is one of the most revered Grands Crus of the Côte de Beaune, lying between Puligny-Montrachet and Chassagne-Montrachet. The site enjoys optimal exposure and clay-limestone soils rich in minerals. Manual harvests include a strict selection to retain only the finest fruit. Fermentation takes place in oak casks with native yeasts, and the wine is then aged for 12 months in oak, with around 15% new wood.
The wine shows a bright, golden hue. The nose reveals a complex array of ripe stone fruit, white flowers, toasted almond and delicate buttery notes. On the palate, the attack is broad and generous, carried by fine acidity. The texture is creamy yet underpinned by subtle minerality, leading into a long, persistent finish marked by flavours of hazelnut and fresh butter.
