Information
The estate was founded in 2001, when the family’s five hectares of vines – previously leased out under sharecropping agreements – were brought back under direct management. Since the 18th century, the Burgundian family had overseen the C. Marey and Comte Liger-Belair wine-trading houses. Today, the vineyard extends over eight hectares across some of Burgundy’s most renowned appellations, including Richebourg, Vosne-Romanée, Clos de Vougeot, Nuits-Saint-Georges and Gevrey-Chambertin.
In 2004, Thibault established a wine-trading business, Thibault Liger-Belair Successeurs, through which he purchases grapes and farms a further 12 hectares of vines. In 2008, the winemaker expanded into Beaujolais – a region he discovered during his studies – settling in Moulin-à-Vent and creating Domaine des Pierres Roses.
Across these various ventures, the guiding philosophy remains the same: a pursuit of finesse and a constant effort to understand what each vine requires. The wines have already reached an impressive level and are widely regarded as among the region’s rising stars, combining substance with elegance.
Moulin-à-Vent is one of the most prestigious crus of Beaujolais winemaking landscape. The Champ de Cour climat, high on the slope, is defined by deep soils of weathered pink granite mixed with clay and manganese. After manual harvests and rigorous sorting, the grapes ferment in stainless-steel and concrete vats with native yeasts, following a partial semi-carbonic maceration. The wine is then carefully aged for 12 months in oak casks.
In the glass, the wine reveals a superb ruby-red hue. The intense nose is shaped by black cherry, raspberry, blackberry and violet, underpinned by subtle mineral and smoky nuances. On the palate, the wine is generous and structured, with firm tannins set within a silky texture. The long, persistent finish returns to black fruit and spice, with a distinctly mineral imprint typical of Champ de Cour.
