Information
Stéphane Bernaudeau, who works for Domaine Mark Angeli, also owns just over 2 hectares of vines in Anjou in the Martigné-Briand district. This small-scale concern has been very successful and it is hard to get hold of bottles of its Chenin cuvées as their quality is so high. These wines have a distinctive depth, energy and minerality. We can highly recommend wines from this outstanding producer.
The Les Coqueries parcel, in the heart of the Loire Valley’s Anjou Blanc, lies on south- and south-east-facing slopes. The clay-limestone soils, composed of light schist, are poor but well drained. The grapes are harvested by hand with meticulous sorting to retain only healthy, perfectly ripe fruit. In the winery, fermentation occurs slowly with native yeasts to preserve the wine’s freshness and aromatic purity. The wine is aged on fine lees for 24 months, without heavy filtration or excessive inputs.
In the glass, the wine shows a pale gold hue with green glints. The expressive, elegant nose delivers notes of apple, pear and white flowers, complemented by hints of almond and flintstone. The palate is generous and precise, offering a perfect balance of fullness and mineral tension, leading into a long, fruit-driven finish.
