Information
Located in Chassagne-Montrachet, the Domaine Morey-Coffinet is a 8.5 hectare vineyard resulting from joining the domaines of Marc Morey and Fernand Coffinet. Most of the vineyards are located in Chassagne-Montrachet, including the famous premier crus la Romanée, Remilly and les Caillerets, but the domaine also has plots in Puligny-Montrachet and Bâtard-Montrachet. The vines are grown organically (under certification) and the aging is done in oak barrels which can be up to 60% new depending on the vintages and cuvées.
The Corton terroir is Burgundy’s only red Grand Cru in the Côte de Beaune, recognised since the 17th century, and also the most expansive. Located within the commune of Aloxe-Corton, the Perrières climat is a highly regarded site, benefiting from a south-east-facing exposure. Its clay-limestone soils contain a high proportion of stones, from which the climat takes its name. Traditional vinification is carried out with spontaneous fermentation by native yeasts during a 20-day maceration. The wine is then aged for 18 months in cask, with 35% new oak.
The vibrant ruby-red hue heralds expressive aromatics. The nose reveals ripe red fruit aromas such as blackcurrant and black cherry, supported by notes of plum, sweet spice, cocoa and undergrowth. On the palate, a velvety attack unfolds into fine-grained tannins, leading to a long, complex finish offering remarkable aromatic persistence.
