Information
Following her initial career in journalism, Marthe Henry, granddaughter of the great Burgundy wine icon Pierre Boillot, embraced the winemaking trade in 2013. Passionate and determined, she settled in Meursault and started her training at the Lycée Viticole (wine college) before embarking on a long and thorough apprenticeship with her friends Pierre-Henri Rougeot and Jean-Yves Devevey. Early on, she built up her own business, a micro-trading operation offering premium wines. It was in 2023 that she took over some family vines for the first time, wishing to cultivate and vinify them in a pure, natural style. In the winery, vinification is low interventionist and the wines are matured in oak casks for a minimum of 18 months. Her first vintages already reflect her refined talent, combined with the wealth of a powerful and unique family heritage.
The Saint-Romain appellation lies to the west of Meursault and Auxey-Duresses, in a steep valley at the foot of a rocky cliff. The Chardonnay vines grow on very stony clay-limestone soils, often marly, formed from cliff scree. The elevated altitude, around 280 metres, together with the cool climate, produces wines that are lively, mineral and elegant. In the vineyard, manual harvests are followed by rigorous sorting. In the winery, the fruit undergoes gentle, slow pressing before spontaneous fermentation in Burgundian oak casks. Ageing follows for 12 months in cask, with only a small proportion of new oak.
In the glass, the pale gold hue shows subtle silvery glints. The nose offers generous white flowers, citrus and fresh pear, supported by chalky notes. The precise, lively palate shows real energy. A lively attack leads gently into a saline, persistent finish typical of Saint-Romain.
