Tokaj Zoltan Demeter Oszhegy Sarga Muskatoly Muscat 2008
The wine
From 25-year-old vines grown on clay and volcanic soil, this wine was vinified in stainless steel vats. Produced in a modest quantity (just 700 bottles), it is dry and marked by a superb freshness and aromatic, floral notes. Lively and airy, this wine turns out to be a lovely discovery from Hungary.
About the Producer Demeter Zoltán
One of the greatest Tokaj producers in the world, Demeter Zoltan created his domain in 1996, in collaboration with Ivan Szepsi to begin with, then on his own since the 2000s. His goal? To bring back to the spotlight the regional terroirs, somewhat neglected by 50 years of communist collectivism. The winemaker originally underwent horticultural training in Budapest, then in France, Britain and the United States. Today, he makes use of 7 hectares of vines that benefit from the influence of local, schist soils. Here, he cultivates the local, noble grape varieties (Furmint, Harslevelu and Sarga Muskotaly), carrying out dry vinifications as well as late harvests and sweet wines.
