One of three reds produced by Julien Klein showcasing the region’s unique expression of Pinot Noir from Alsace.
More infoEichgass Pinot Noir is one of three reds produced by the Julien Klein estate. It originates from vines thriving in soils composed of clay, sand, silt, and gneiss, situated between Strasbourg and Colmar, at the border of Bas-Rhin and Haut-Rhin. The 30-year-old vines are planted at a modest altitude of under 200 metres. They enjoy an eastern and south-eastern exposure on gentle, almost flat slopes. Short pruning is favoured, and the grapes are harvested by hand at peak ripeness. Julien Klein champions environmentally friendly viticulture, adhering to organic principles and banning chemical inputs from his vineyard.
In the winery, the traditional vinification methods are low-interventionist. The wines are matured for long periods varying from 18 to 24 months. The Eichgass Pinot Noir is a ripe, generous red, brimming with character and ideal for pairing with rich dishes such as a venison stew.

About the Producer Julien Klein
A real ‘child of the region’, the son of cooperative winegrowers, he established his estate in Kintzheim in 2017. Winemaker, artisan and farmer in the truest sense of the terms, he puts a great deal of energy into his work in the vineyard, reducing intervention to a minimum in the winery. There, everything is done by hand and foot! Little machinery is used between the rows of vines and the paths are well grassed. The pruning is kept short, the harvest is carried out by hand, and the grape varieties are perfectly suited to the terroir and each parcel. Certified organic and closely attuned to natural winemaking practices, his wines spend two years in the cellar before being bottled. Each bottle produced captures all the richness and complexity of his terroirs, all the history of his localities, all the freshness of his grapes, and all the delicacy of his vines.
The freshness and frankness of his wines have caught the attention of the French magazine La Revue du Vin de France, who have included him, along with 14 others, in their ‘winemakers to watch’ for 2025. So, follow the guide!
