This old-vine Morgon expresses a floral, fruit-driven Gamay, with a juicy palate combining generosity, finesse and fine length.
More infoThe Corcelette parcels, set within the heart of the Morgon terroir, are rooted in decomposed granite and benefit from south and south-west-facing exposures at around 320 metres in altitude. This granitic subsoil lends the Gamay floral finesse, mineral tension and structure. The old vines, averaging 45 years, account for the wine’s concentration and complexity. Manual harvests precede a traditional, low-intervention vinification. The fruit undergoes semi-carbonic maceration with whole bunches followed by fermentation with native yeasts naturally present on the grapes. The wine is then aged for a few months in vat following a period spent in seasoned oak barrels.
The wine shows a bright, light ruby hue. The nose is marked by aromas of strawberry, raspberry and violet, lifted by floral nuances. On the palate, a clean attack reveals juicy fruit and well-defined tannins, leading into a persistent, mineral finish.
About the Producer Domaine des Marrans - J-J- L. & M.Mélinand
The story of the domain began in 1970, when Jean-Jacques Mélinand bought 4 hectares of vines from Clos du Pavillon in Fleurie. The property continued to grow, and soon the vats were too small for the amount of grapes produced. The domain now covers five appellations: Fleurie, Beaujolais, Beaujolais-Villages, Chiroubles and Morgon. The domain has been managed by Jean-Jacques’ son Matthieu since 2009.
