Fixin Clos Marion Frédéric Magnien 2020
The wine
Fixin is a historic village of the Côte de Nuits, home to revered climats such as Clos Marion. This small, historic clos enjoys an ideal south-east-facing exposure, ensuring optimal ripening. The clay-limestone soils, with fine marls and limestone scree, provide excellent drainage and impart aromatic concentration and refined minerality. Manual harvests are followed by careful sorting to retain only the ripest and healthiest bunches. The grapes are partially destemmed before alcoholic fermentation in vats, during which punch-downs and pump-overs are performed to extract colour, structure and aromatics. Vatting lasts around 18 days. The wine is then aged in French oak casks before bottling with trace amounts of sulphur.
The wine displays an intense and brilliant hue. The nose reveals black cherry, raspberry and violet, lifted by subtle spice. On the palate, the wine is silky, structured and elegant, with fine tannins, pure, juicy fruit and lively acidity, leading into a long, persistent and refined finish.
