Barossa Valley Torbreck The Laird 2016

The wine

The Barossa Valley is arguably Australia’s most renowned wine region, celebrated for its powerful, dense and structured red wines. The Laird is a cuvée produced from a single parcel in the Marananga sector, in the north-west of the valley. Harvesting is done entirely by hand at full ripeness, with rigorous sorting directly in the vineyard. Fermentation takes place in open wooden and concrete vats, with daily manual punch downs. Maceration is long, up to three weeks, allowing full yet perfectly controlled tannin extraction. The wine is then aged for 36 months in new French oak casks before being bottled without fining or filtration.
In the glass, the wine reveals a superb ruby-red hue. The nose is rich and complex, layered with intense aromas of wild blackberry and black plum, enriched by notes of dark chocolate, cedar, blond tobacco and sweet spices. On the palate, the attack is opulent and silky, carried by a velvety texture and firm yet seamlessly integrated tannins.

About the Producer Torbreck

Founded in 1995 by Dave Powell, Torbreck in now one of the emblematic domains of Barossa Valley. The founder, a Rhone enthusiast, took inspiration from this region by planting a majority of Syrah, Grenache, Mourvèdre, Viognier, Marsanne and Roussanne, with a little Sémillon. In order to preserve the grapes, the harvest is brought to the vats by gravity, and the yields are limited, favouring quality. Appreciated for their richness and the excellent craftsmanship that goes into the wines, Torbreck is one of the leading producers of its region.
