The wine
Fleurie Le Clos is matured for a third of the time in oak barrels, a third of the time in stainless steel and a third in oak casks. It is a somewhat rustic cuvée but hidden behind that is a beautiful complexity. The nose gives floral (violet, iris) and spiced notes. In the mouth it is full and well rounded. The finish is very pleasant with light notes of pepper. It is a wine that pairs perfectly with Roast Beef and Coq au Vin.
Domaine de le Grand’Cor is owned by the Dutraive family. Their Gamay is produced under the Fleurie and the Brouilly appellations. The domain covers 11.7 hectacres and has held organic certification since 2009. Jean-Louis Dutraive does everything he can to allow the terroir be reflected in his wines. He vinifies without the use of sulfites and at low temperatures. He also uses natural yeasts and carbonic maceration. His wines are natural and are neither filtered nor clarified. It is a domain that has now established itself amongst the best that Beaujolais has to offer.
