What makes this wine special?
A generous and charming California red wine bursting with delicious fruity flavours.
More infoWhile its origins lie in the stunning Californian wine landscape, the Léon cuvée is a real journey to the heart of the Jura, which inspired the elaborate blend of Trousseau, Poulsard and Pinot Noir. The vines stretch along the narrow banks of the Steiner stream. In the winery, the harvested grapes ferment in oak casks for 18 days with the skins. Fermentation is triggered by native yeasts. Absolutely no sulphur is added during the lengthy vinification process. The cuvée is bottled by gravity without fining or filtration.
The sparkling, clear, ruddy-red colour reveals a stunning nose, with rich aromas of blackberry and apple pie. The juicy and spicy palate reveals delicious aromas of spice, leading to a fresh, fruity and persistent finish. This delicate red wine can easily be cellared for several years.
About the Producer Phelan Farm
★ Partner ProducerWith most of its vineyard parcels nestled in the cool hills of Cambria on the San Luis Obispo Coast, Phelan Farm is one of California’s most distinctive and exciting wine projects. At the heart of Phelan Farm lies a simple yet profound philosophy: allowing the land to speak for itself through viticulture that respects the surrounding ecosystem, rooted in permaculture, regenerative agriculture and biodynamic principles.
Led by acclaimed winemaker Rajat Parr in partnership with the Phelan family, the estate seeks to craft vibrant, precise and elegant wines that remain true to their site while offering a refreshing alternative to the richer, more powerful style often associated with California. The vines, planted on a mosaic of soils and shaped by the cooling influence of the Pacific, give rise to distinctive wines such as Autrement, a blend inspired by the traditions of Savoie combining Gamay, Mondeuse and Pinot Noir. The estate also produces original expressions of Pinot Noir, Trousseau, Mencía, Poulsard, Chardonnay, Gringet, Jacquère, Altesse and Savagnin. Altogether, Phelan Farm extends over just 12 acres (4.85 hectares).
Fermentations rely exclusively on native yeasts, with little sulphur and no inputs, allowing the purity of the fruit and the character of the terroir to shine through in every bottle. The wines are aged in old oak barrels. and bottled without filtration.
Produced in tiny quantities, Phelan Farm’s wines are defined by freshness, saline tension and vibrant energy, capturing the essence of this singular, unspoilt landscape.
