Autriche Kracher TBA N°8 Traminer Nouvelle Vague 2010
The wine
TBA stands for Trockenbeerenauslese. This refers to wine produced in tiny quantities, and only in the best years, from grapes that are botrytised until they resemble dried raisins. This bottle has a particularly high level of residual sugars which is balanced by its prominent acidic quality. Hand harvesting and meticulous sorting of the berries, followed by vinification and 18 months of barrel ageing in new wood are what give these wines their high value. This wine’s powerful, slightly Muscat nose exudes notes of gingerbread, citrus fruit and cloves. On the palate, its full flavoured, deeply aromatic and oily side is still very delicate. This absolute nectar of a wine is a delight on its own, as a "meditative wine”, but also pairs well with blue cheeses and exotic desserts.
About the Producer Kracher
The Kracher domaine has earned an international reputation for the quality and sophistication of its sweet wines and has become the standard bearer for Austrian vineyards. Three generations of winegrowers have worked since 1928 to produce consistently excellent sweet wines. It is located close to Neusiedl lake where the climate is propitious to the formation of noble rot. There is a wide range of wines and different vinifications are offered, even for wines of similar sweetness. The wines very clearly reflect the know-how handed down from one generation to the next with an enduring love of wine. They are all perfectly balanced, rich and wonderfully aromatic.
