Bourboulenc
Bourboulenc is a white grape variety grown mainly in the south of France. Originally from Provence, this variety needs a warm, dry climate to be productive and, above all, to deliver quality. Descended from Gouais Blanc, it covers around 600 hectares in France, but is also planted in Spain, Italy and Greece. Blended with Grenache Blanc, Clairette, Ugni Blanc and Roussanne, it produces some very fine wines. It is one of the thirteen authorised grape varieties in Châteauneuf-du-Pape. This late-ripening variety produces wines with low alcohol levels, tropical fruit aromas, and floral flavours. It is also resistant to drought which affects the ripening of grapes around the Mediterranean. You will often find it blended in the wines of the Vieux Télégraphe, Beaucastel and Chapoutier estates, as well as those of Stéphane Ogier, Elodie Balme and Maxime Magnon.
