South-West | 2019 vintage
A large part of the vines from this slightly assorted region were subjected to “classic” adverse weather conditions in 2019. There was a significant frost in April, imperfect flowering due to a cool spring which caused uneven flower fertilisation, and a heatwave at the start of summer. All of this put together meant that some domains lost up to 50% of their crop. However, the end of the cycle was saved by some rain in August and September and good weather conditions during harvest. The grapes achieved a good level of ripeness, especially the black ones, and they retained their brilliant balance in the wine. There are some beautiful cuvées from Cahors, Gaillac and Madiran. The finest white wine terroirs, such as Jurançon, Irouléguy and Gaillac, also produced wonderful wine, going from dry all the way up to sweet wines (in Jurançon).
