Information
Domaine Gorges du Soleil was created after World War II by the Beille family. The domain came into the hands of Jean-Philippe – the founder's grandson – following the accidental death of his father in 2003. This domain is located a few stone's throws from the Mediterranean, on a superb terroir of eolised (wind-polished) pebbles. Today, the domain mostly produces Côtes du Roussillon and Muscat wines, but we were able to unearth and buy the last two tanks of very old Rivesaltes just as Jean-Philippe was taking the decision to modernise his cellar with stainless steel tanks.
The two vintages we have found (1953 and 1963) are perfect blends of the three Grenache varieties (black, grey and white) with some traces of Muscat d'Alexandrie, Maccabeu, and perhaps Malvoisie. They have been produced and aged according to the tradition for top quality Rivesaltes which is why they are remarkably balanced, rich in aromas and have excellent ageing potential.
